Class Structure and Expectations

We’ve found that high-quality classes, plus high expectations for behavior, equals happy, productive students.

Our students have fun while learning together and are expected to be kind and respectful at all times when participating in Renaissance Academy (RA) classes, and/or events. In addition, any assigned homework is to be completed on time and to the best of a student’s ability.

Each Hybrid student will have four core classes (Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies), and two electives (additional electives on a self pay basis are available to grades 1-8)

Class sizes are small in order to optimize the learning experience for our students.

Our Hybrid program provides all core curriculum and structure for lessons and assignments.

  • The core curriculum consists of physical materials with little time online required. Math lessons for 3rd-8th grade are provided online and students are expected to watch and learn from these lessons while working on the problems in class with instructor assistance (Flipped classroom model).
    • Our elective classes have a larger online footprint with a variety of instruction provided online.
  • All state-required standardized testing for Oxford Virtual Academy OLE students takes place at RA (or at the Oxford Virtual Academy lab in Oxford if special testing accommodations are needed).
  • Students receive instruction on class days and are assigned lessons to complete at home before the next class day. The parent or guardian serves as the learning coach/co-teacher.
  • We are not a faith based program or a secular program. We have a blended group of families and are neutral in approach.
  • Parent Involvement REQUIRED
    • Homework assignments are provided in a clear, well-laid-out format.

For 15 weeks each semester, for core classes, students meet at RA 2 days a week and also have an additional three days per week of “at-home learning” each week.

  • 3 weeks each semester are fully “at home learning” with students completing all assignments at home with a parent.

Elective classes meet for 14 weeks each semester.

Additional days/times for required testing for students enrolled with Oxford Virtual Academy for OLE may be needed.
